Jyoti Malhotra is among the 12 people who were arrested from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the last 3 weeks on suspicion of espionage. Investigators suspected a spy network linked to Pakistan to be active in North India. This woman from Hisar used to run a YouTube channel named Travel with JO. Recently, she was arrested from New Agrasen Extension and a case was registered against her under the provisions of the Official Secrets Act and the Indian Justice Code.
On Monday, a Hisar court sent Jyoti Malhotra to judicial custody after her police remand ended in a case of alleged espionage. The 33-year-old travel influencer was produced in court. The police spokesperson said that they did not seek her further remand after which the court sent her to jail. Meanwhile, police sources said on Monday that data has been recovered from Jyoti’s three mobile phones and a laptop. Which has been sent for forensic examination. He said about 10 to 12 terabytes of data has been recovered. Further investigation is going on in this regard. Police said this.
After the arrest, the police have sent her three mobile phones and a laptop for forensic examination. Malhotra’s four bank accounts are also being investigated. The court had extended Malhotra’s police remand for 4 days.
No Military Leak Found, But YouTuber Knew She Was Talking to Pakistani Spies: Police
When the YouTuber, arrested on suspicion of espionage, was produced in court at the end of a 5-day police remand last week, the Hisar police had said that no evidence had emerged to suggest that Jyoti had access to any military or defence-related information. But they said that she was definitely in touch with some people and knew that they were Pakistani intelligence agents. Police sources had said that she was in touch with Pakistani High Commission employee Ehsan ur Rahim alias Danish since November 2023.
India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage. National Investigation Agency Intelligence Bureau and military intelligence officials have also questioned Jyoti. Investigations revealed that she had visited Pakistan, China, Bangladesh and some other countries. They had said that she was also allegedly in touch with Danish during the four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.
